{image-26 jan_14012008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, Jan 14: With Republic Day drawing close, the Centre is advising states to remain alert and take special measures to improve security to prevent any terror incidents. The Home Ministry is issuing an advisory to all states to beef up security to protect vital installations, transport systems including railways and Delhi Metro and crowded market places. The states have also been asked to take special measures to protect VIPs and other distinguished people. Security is also being beefed up at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and other national airports.

With the country witnessing a number of terror attacks last year, the Centre is asking the states to be extra cautious in the new year as terror organisations may try to foment trouble to get public attention.

The Home Ministry and the Railway Ministry had held a high-level meeting last week to review the security on trains and railway stations as many a time insurgent groups and naxalites target railway property and disrupt transport system.

The Centre regularly issues advisory to states, especially before Republic Day, Independence Day and major religious festivals, to remain on alert and take measures to thwart attempts of militant organisations and naxalites.
