Army official attempts suicide; injures 2 jawans

Jammu, Jan 14 (UNI) Two army jawans were wounded when their superior fired upon them before attempting to commit suicide in Akhnoor here today, official sources said.

Two sepoys -- Mohd S Ali and Dhananjay Kumar Yadav -- of 510 ASC battalion were wounded by the bullets fired by Lance Naik Vishesh Kumar, the sources said.

''It is still not confirmed whether it was accidental discharge or a run amok case as the Lance Naik also fired at himself later,'' the sources revealed.

The Lance Naik was shifted to the Army's command hospital at Udhampur while the sepoys were admitted to the military hospital, Akhnoor.

The Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami, when contacted, confirmed the incident saying ''a court of inquiry has been ordered into the incident.'' Howver, SDPO, Akhnoor, Atul Shrama told UNI that the police had not been officially informed about the incident.
