AP to play vital role in 'Bharat Nirman' : YSR

Hyderabad, Jan 14 (UNI) Claiming that the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh had undertaken a slew of measures to strengthen agriculture sector since 2004, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the State would play an important role in achieving the goals set for the Centre's 'Bharat Nirman' programme.

According to an official release here, Dr Reddy said Andhra Pradesh would alone bring one crore acres of land under cultivation, out of the total two crore acres targetted under Bharat Nirman.

About 11 lakh acres of land had been brought under agricultural activity and another 25 lakh acres of land would be converted into cultivable land by next 'Sankranti' festival.

Stating that the Centre had appreciated the efforts made by his Government to increase food production, he said the State had received huge funds form the Centre under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme, as compared to other States, to develop irrigation projects.
