Traders body warn of stir

New Delhi, Jan 13 (UNI) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today called for a nationwide agitation to protect internal trade today.

Addressing a press conference here, the CAIT leaders said they were going to hold a mammoth rally at Jhansi in UP on March 11.

A release by the traders body mentions growing clamour for a White Paper stating advantages of the corporate houses in retail trade.

The leaders accused the Union Government of being hands-in-glove with the corporate retailers and the MNCs.

By amending several laws and rules including Packaged Commodities Act, Weights &Measurement Act, Food Safety&Standard Act etc, the Western Countries standards are being made mandatory for adoption while ignoring the ground realties of centuries old indian trade, the release mentioned further.

The burden of such amendments will fall on the consumers of the country, alleged the trade leaders.

Taking strong note of the gross neglect of internal trade so far, the trade leaders called for the internal trade to be strengthened.

The Union Government should declare a National Trade Policy and set up a Trade Commission to monitor growth of retail trade in a structured manner, they demanded.

Among those present on the occasion included CAIT National Executive President BC Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal.
