Southern Command Investiture ceremony on Jan 15

Chennai, Jan 13 (UNI) The Southern Command Investiture ceremony will be held at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) here on January 15 as part of the Army Day celebrations.

Lt Gen Noble Thamburaj, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, would present gallantry awards to 42 personnel at the function, a defence release here said today.

In honour of the recipients, a cultural evening would be organised here tomorrow, the release said.

Army Day is celebrated in all Army formations on January 15 every year to commemorate taking over the reins of Indian Army by an Indian. It was on this day in 1949 than Field Marshal K M Kariappa took over the charge as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
