Govts cannot curb people's wish to own cars
Bangalore, Jan 13 (UNI) Governments, whether it is Union or State, cannot stop people from buying cars and a glut of vehicles coming on the roads in the wake of the release of Tata Nano, the Rs one lakh car, cannot be wished way, Union Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Gas M R Srinivasan has said.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the first retail outlet of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), at Maddur in the neighbouring Mandya district, on the Bangalore-Mysore highway last night, he said it was all the result of economic prosperity.
''Economic prosperity has resulted in the needs of people going up. We cannot tell the people not to buy new cars. It will be the duty of the governments to supply fuel and create good infrastructure like roads,'' he added.
