Fire breaks out at tyre factory

Barrackpore, Jan 13 (UNI) Close on the heels of devastating Barabazar blaze, another major fire today broke out at a tyre factory in Shyamnagar under Jagaddal Police Station of North 24 Parganas district.

Raw materials and machineries of mixing department worth a few crore of rupees of the Tyre Corporation of India Limited's Shyamnagar factory were gutted.

The fire was brought under control by eleven fire tenders of the West Bengal Fire Service. Air force was also pressed into service.

Sub-divisional officer, Barrackpore, Jyotishman Chattopadhyay and Sub-divisional police officer Sumanjit Roy, along with the force, rushed to the factory.

Supply of electricity was also snapped as precautionary measure so that fire did not spread over other parts of the factory.

Fire Brigade sources said the cause of fire was yet to be ascertained.

The factory employs nearly 1300 workers.
