Official sources here informed that the fully grown tiger suddenly came out of the sugarcane field near the village and attacked the villagers, including the women, when they were returning home after a day's work.
However, overcoming the intitial shock when the villagers fought back with whatever they could lay their hands on, the tiger fled.
Soon the injured were rushed to a nearby primary heath centre by the local villagers as the condition of some of the injured deteriorated.
Though it was not immediately known from where the big cat had strayed into the sugarcane field, it was believed that it had come from the nearby Banka forest range.
