Andaman gets new Disaster Management Authority

Port Blair, Jan 13 (UNI) The administration of the earthquake prone Andaman and Nicobar islands have set up a Disaster Management Authority, officials said today.

Lt Governor Bhopinder Singh will be the chairperson of the authority while the other members on the board are Chief Secretary of Andaman administration, Director General of Police, Chief of Staff, Andaman and Nicobar Command, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Development Commissioner and Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health).

The union territory Disaster Management Authority shall discharge all such functions and have such powers as envisaged in the Disaster Management Act, 2005, an official release said.

A notification to this effect had been issued by the administration and shall supersede all previous orders notifications regarding constitution and function of the authority.
