TN urges Central team to quickly submit report to Centre

Chennai, Jan 12 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today urged the Central team, visiting the rain-hit areas in the state, to submit their assessment report quickly to the Centre for release of funds.

While addressing the team members during a meeting here, State Revenue Minister I Periyasamy said about 22 districts, 111 taluks and 2,676 villages were severely affected in the recent floods caused by the rains.

He said about 140 people had lost their life during the entire monsoon in the state.

Mr Periyasamy said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had send a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, seeking funds to the tune of Rs 1,510.87 crore for temporary restoration of damages and Rs 965.74 crore for permanent restoration of damages caused by the rains.

The Minister thanked the Centre for deputing an Inter-Ministerial Central team to assess the rain damages.

A nine-member Central team had arrived here on January 10 to assess the damage caused by the rains in Tamil Nadu.
