Islamabad, Jan 12 : Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Finance Secretary Babar Awan has claimed that state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) had footage in which some people were shown helping suspected persons escape from the crime scene after the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto.

Awan alleged that the government was trying to keep the footage secret and had not shared it with the Scotland Yard team probing Benazir's assassination.

"We demand that the footage be released to national and international TV channels. It could help investigators identify the real perpetrators of the killing," the Daily Times quoted Awan as saying.

He further said the government did not seem serious about the murder probe, as it had not even submitted the FIR to the court yet, adding that police is bound to submit the FIR along with initial investigation reports within 14 days of an incident.

He also reiterated PPP's demand for a UN inquiry into the murder and said that his party would send delegations to the US, Europe, UN and European Union for this purpose.

"Pakistan had even overtaken war-torn countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia in terms of people killed in terror strikes," he added.
