'Jallikattu' held in TN village albeit SC ban
Madurai, Jan 12 (UNI) Barely hours after the Supreme Court banned the conduct of 'Jallikattu' (bull taming), villagers at Soorakkudi near Singampunari in Sivaganga district, conducted the village sport, as part of a local religious festival.
According to reports, at least 100 bulls, brought from the neighbouring villages, were forced into the event held yesterday.
Though a large number of youth exhibited their 'heroism', nobody was injured.
A police official told UNI that they were 'verifying' the incident.
''Criminal proceedings will be initiated against the violators.
We will strictly implement the order. The villagers are advised against organising Jallikattu,'' he added.
