Idols worth Rs 1 cr seized, 3 held

Aligarh, Jan 12: The Special Operation Group (SOG) of Uttar Pradesh Police has busted an idol smuggling syndicate here and arrested three people with 'ashtadhatu' idols worth Rs 1 crore in the international market.

On a tip-off, cops intercepted a car and recovered the idols of Lord Mahaveer and Gautam Buddha late last evening, police today said.

Three idol thieves, identified as Chintu, Tejpal and Mukesh were also nabbed.

The trio had been sent to jail.
