Babush willing to join NCP, recontest from Taleigao

Panaji, Jan 12 (UNI) In a significant development, political heavyweight and unattached legislator from Taleigao Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate, supporting the Digambar Kamat Government, has expressed his willingness to join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

''If necessary, I am ready to resign my membership to the Legislative Assembly and recontest from Taleigao on the NCP ticket,'' Mr Babush told UNI after calling on the NCP State President Dr Wilfred D'Souza today.

Save Goa Front legislator Reginaldo Laurenco also joined chorus with Mr Babush, and met the former Chief Minister D'Souza. The duo will consult the SGF supremo and PWD Minister Churchil Alemao before taking the final decision.

It is not immediately known whether the nascent SGF, which took birth just before the June 2 elections to the State Assembly, is also planning to merge with the NCP.

''Anything is possible at anytime in Goa politics,'' Mr Babush quipped.

Mr Babush said he had decided to join the NCP as the Party had openly endorsed his demand of scrapping the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat besides, stating that the ''governance in Goa is in disarray''.
