Central team visits flood affected areas
Tiruchirapalli, Jan 11 (UNI) The three-member Central team led by Union Home Affairs Joint Secretary Dinesh Singh visited the areas affected by heavy rains and floods recently in Tiruchirapalli district.
Tamil Nadu Revenue Administration Commissioner Thangam Sankaranarayanan, who accompanied the team, told newspersons that the district administration had sought an assistance of Rs 108 crore to carry out relief and rehabilitation works.
The team would hold a discussion with Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Chief Secretary L K Tripathy tomorrow at Chennai.
Earlier, the team interacted with the affected people.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Horticultural Crops Producers Association President Puliyur A Nagarajan, in his representation to the team, urged them to ensure release of Rs one lakh per acre as compensation to the plantain cultivators, whose crops perished in the rains.
