Arms smuggling racket busted in UP
Gorakhpur, Jan 11 (UNI) An arms smuggling racket was busted with the arrest of its five members possessing a large number of cartridges in Cantonment area of the city.
Working on a tip-off, cops intercepted seven motorcycle-borne miscreants under Cantonment police station area. On being challenged, the accused opened fire.
In the ensuing encounter, police swooped down five persons.
However, their associates managed to escape.
Two pistols, two revolvers and three countrymade pistols were recovered from their possession.
On interrogation, the quintet disclosed that their gang kingpins Disco Tiwari and Dinesh Nishad supplied cartridges from Mungair and Siwan (Bihar) in Gorakhpur and the neighbouring areas.
The gang also supplied carbine on demand of the buyers, they confessed.
The accused had been sent to jail and a manhunt launched to nab their accomplices, police said.
