Tata's Nano is an example of India's technical abilities: Nath

New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) Hours after the euphoria of Tata Nano subsided, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath showered praises on the product and said the car demonstrated to the world India's technical, intellectual and entrepreneurial abilities.

''It is a proud moment for India. It demonstrates India's technological, intellectual and entrepreneurial ability. The car will help people leap-frog over the two-wheelers to four-wheelers,'' said Mr Nath while inaugurating the ninth Auto Expo here.

However, Mr Nath threw a caution to the two-wheeler industry on the potential slackening of demand it might see because of people opting for the Nano over a two-wheeler.

''The two wheeler industry has to take a note of this,'' he said.

The Minister added that the car also throws up interesting challenges in terms of infrastructure needs of the country. ''From Detroit to Stuttgart, all are shining examples of auto sector driving the growth story and the focal point of economic architecture in for of manufacturing and infrastructure,'' he said.

Mr Nath said the growth trajectory has to be addressed with global economics in mind as India is not only looking at FDIs but also investing overseas.

''Strong fundamentals with the right ingredients put us in a very unique position where we are the fast growing free market in the world,'' Mr Nath said.

The world is now looking at India not only for its markets but also because of its brains, he added.

Incidentally, a team of 500 designers and engineers worked for four years on the development of the Nano.
