Railway revenue earnings up 12.46 per cent

New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) The earnings of Indian Railways during April-December last year were pegged at Rs 50787.95 crore compared to Rs 45161.72 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.46 per cent.

The goods earnings went up from Rs 30533.39 crore to Rs 34126.27 crore during the period, showing an increase of 11.77 per cent.

The passenger revenue earnings during first nine months of the fiscal 2007-08 were Rs 14526.36 crore compared to Rs 12728.21 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 14.13 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching and sundry amounted to Rs 2135.32 crore compared to Rs 1900.12 crore, showing an increase of 11.01 per cent.

The total number of passengers booked during April- December 2007 were 4990.38 million compared to 4728.08 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.55 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during were 2748.11 million and 2242.27 million compared to 2616.76 million and 2111.32 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.02 per cent and 6.20 per cent respectively.
