Allahabad, Jan 10 (UNI) The Principal Secretary (home) today filed an affidavit in Allahabad High Court that the suspension of all the 25 IPS officers suspended in Police Recuitment Scam has been revoked by the Uttar Pradesh government as they had admitted their guilt by tendering a letter of apology to Chief Minister Mayawati.

The Allahabad HC had directed the UP government to file its affidavit through Chief Secretary, bringing on record the materials, regarding inquiry that the chief secretary as well as the report of the inquiry of IPS officers, guilty in this recruitment scam.

Fixing January 15 for the next hearing, Justice D P Singh directed that all materials with regard to the police constable recruitment scam be brought on record through an affidavit by the chief secretary of the state along with the explanation of delay.

In a major decision, the Mayawati government on September 11 had suspended 12 senior Indian Police Services (IPS) officers in the state for their involvement in the police recruitment scam during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime and annulled 14 recruitment boards, in which a total of 6,504 civil police and PAC constables were recruited.

Altogether over 22,000 policemen were recruited during the previous Samajwadi Party regime between the year 2004 and 2006 and several irregularities were detected during the probe conducted by the present Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government, when it came to power in May last.

At least 13 top police officials had been charged with irregularities in the recruitment of around 20,000 policemen during 2005-06 by the investigating committee.

These charges included allegedly waiving police verification to recruit several persons with criminal records, forging exam papers and caste certificates, fudging scores and even changing laid-down criteria to favour select candidates.

The probe was ordered by Ms Mayawati on June 13 on the complaints filed by some legislators and unsuccessful candidates of eastern UP.

Between May 2005 and November 2006, more than 20,000 police constables, PAC jawans and wireless operators were recruited at 55 centres all over UP.
