Clarify on delimitation of constituencies by February: BJP
New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) Terming the exercise of delimitation of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies as a legitimate exercise, the BJP today urged the Government and the Election Commission to notify the redrawn boundaries of the constitutencies by end of February so that the political parties and the candidates would have a clear picture of things ahead of general elections.
BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who is also incharge of Central Election Cell told newspersons here that the Delimitation Commission had completed its work on almost all states and had even submitted its report to the government. The government, he alleged, was going slow on the implementation because the boundaries of constituncies of some of the Minister and leaders had been affected.
The delimitation was a very good exercise upholding the principles of social justice and political empowerment for the underprivileged masses and the Commission's report should be respected without any further delay. The Commission was necessary to take note of the political, social and migration changes that had taken place since the last delimitation exercise.
The Commission had submitted its report nine months ago and it should have been accepted by this time leaving no scope for uncertainty. The Commission's work was complete in the country barring three or four states. The report should be implemented and notified at the earliest. In the states where delimitation exercise is incomplete, the Commission could finalise its report at a later date.
