Campaign for 100 per cent literacy rate
Chandigarh, Jan 10 (UNI) The Centre and the Haryana government will spend a sum of about Rs 1.92 crore in a combined effort to implement the Post Literacy Campaign in Sirsa district of Haryana and to achieve 100 per cent literacy rate in the district.
An official spokesman said two third of the amount would be spent by the Central government and one third by the Haryana government.
He said at present the literacy rate of the district was 60.35 per cent. The literacy rate was 70.05 in among males and 49.93 among females. Preparation was in full swing to achieve 100 per cent literacy under the programme.
The spokesman said as many as 12,000 literate persons would be prepared for the literacy of illiterates. So far, 7233 literate persons had been involved for the purpose.
To train these people, 1504 master trainers had been made who would further be trained by 35 resource persons. All these literate persons appointed in the villages for the literacy programme would work voluntarily, he added.
He said that 200 Public Awareness Centres had been constituted to create an educational atmosphere in the district. In these centres, the people of concerned villages would get information about the activities of Government and Administration.
