Cabinet clears Udhna-Jalgaon electrification project

New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved for the doubling of Udhna-Jalgaon railway lines of Mumbai division and its electrification at a cost of Rs 714.6 crores.

The 306.93 Km line will provide additional capacity after completion in five years, on this section for catering to the projected traffic to meet the requirement of the Thermal power plants in Wanakbhori, Gandhinagar and Ukai-Sonagadh.

The projected traffic by 2010-11 is 35 trains each way as against 23 to 26 being handled at present, Finance Minister P Chidamabaram said after the CCEA meeting.

This will also reduce the lead involved in movement of coal from Korba to Gujarat power plant by 200 Kms as compared to movement via Itarsi-Bhopal-Ratlam.
