AICSSO demands adequate security to Christians in Kandhmal
Bhubaneswar, Jan 10 (UNI) The All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisation(AICSSO) today staged a rally before the Orissa Assembly demanding adequate security to Christians in the strife-torn Kandhmal.
Addressing the rally, AICSSO Chairman Udit Raj said the violence in Kandhmal was camouflaged by a bandh called by the Kui Samaj, which was opposed to the demand of the Panas for a Scheduled Tribe status.
He further said a minor incident in Brahmanigaon on December 24 last was given a religious colour and transformed into a big incident leading to widespread violence in the area.
Mr Raj demanded that the victims be provided with adequate security and the Orissa government must put an end to discrimination against the untouchability.
He further said the perpetrators should be booked and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh be provided to each of the victims' family killed in the incident and Rs five lakh to those injured.
The AICSSO, he said, also demanded constitution of a judicial committee of experts of Kandha and Pana to settle the problem of Kui tribe and an impartial inquiry against the government officials and the law enforcing agencies involved in the incident.
