Winter session of Goa Legislative Assembly begins tomorrow

Panaji, Jan 9 (UNI) The short winter session of Goa Legislative Assembly, beginning tomorrow, is likely to be stormy with the Opposition all set to raise the issue of scrapping Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and demand a probe into land allotments to expose the politicians behind the scandal.

The session will be more interesting with Speaker Pratapsingh Rane today restoring the rights of two MGP legislator brothers - Ramakrishna Dhavalikar and Deepak Dhavlikar - while directing them to abide by the party's decision.

This was following withdrawal of their petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Speaker's ad interim order on July 30 that restrained them from voting in the crucial confidence vote giving, a breather to the Digambar Kamat Government.

Governor S C Jamir will address this year's first day of the session. The next day is dedicated to the private members business in which six resolutions are allowed and one rejected.

The legislature department said the Government will introduce seven bills including Goa Tax Infrastructure Amendment bill and regulation of Land Development and Building Construction Bill.

The Government moves for supplementary demand for grants for the year 2007-08 and the appropriation bill during the session that ends on January 18.
