Two Tripura scientists recognised for pisiculture research

Agartala, Jan 9 (UNI) The Philippines-based Asian Fisheries Society has recognised two scientists from the Tripura Fishery College (TFC) for their pioneering research paper on empowering women with the help of pisiculture.

TFC authorities said here today that the research paper titled - ''Empower women with aquaculture knowledge and skill to increase fish production'' - jointly prepared by Dr M C Nandeesha and Manojit Debnath, was adjudged the ''best paper based on innovative research approaches'' at the international forum.

The lengthy research paper runs up to 9,000 words and was presented at the ''Global symposium on Gender and Fisheries'', the officials said, adding that the scientists had worked on the various aspects of women's involvement in pisiculture and submitted a research copy in the triennial summit of the forum held at Kerala in November.

Speaking to UNI, Dr Nandeesha said, ''This was actually a part of a comprehensive research work, which will be published in the prestigious Development Journal of Britain in its June issue and we have made a second edition of the report as they do not publish more than 3,000 words.

''It deals particularly with various tribal cultures, food habits and topographical conditions of the state,'' Dr Nandeesha added.
