Rtd doctor protests against Red Cross decision

Chennai, Jan 9 (UNI) In a novel protest, a 65-year-old retired Dean of Government General Hospital, who was associated with the Indian Red Cross Society, today offered treatment for AIDS and HIV patients on the streets in the city pavement.

Passersby in the Egmore area were taken aback seeing the doctor treating patients on the pavement in front of the Red Cross Society office, after his four-year contract with the Red Cross to treat HIV patients ended.

As the contract was not renewed and the doctor, Deivanayagam, refused to vacate the room from where he was treating patients in the Red Cross premises, the officials of the Red Cross Society locked the room.

But it did not deter him from pursuing his urge to serve the people as he hit the streets by opening a virtual mobile clinic.
