Reconsolidation day observed in Manipur
Imphal, Jan 9 (UNI) The Manipur Art and Culture department today observed the death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at his Samadhi at Langthabal here.
The state government observes the death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh, who had liberated Manipur from the yoke of the Burmese Empire, as Reconsolidation day. The Maharaj died on January nine, 1834.
Large numbers of people offered floral tributes in front of the portrait of the Great King.
Cultural functions and programmes were arranged by various local organisations.
The Young Voluntary Organisation, Wangkhei, observed the day at the Wangkhei Puja ground. Discussions on the life of the Great King were also organised.
