Major arms haul in Assam

Guwahati, Jan 9 (UNI) A huge quantity of arms and ammunition belonging to the Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA) was recovered from Assam's Karbi Anglong district today.

Police sources informed here that a police team, led by additional SP (border) B K Nath and SDPO, Bokajan, Hiten Gohain, was lying in ambush in Balipathar area under Bokajan police station, based on information of possible militant movement through the area.

ANLA 'district commander' Rupen Lakra was arrested by the police party from the area at about 0130 hours.

Based on his interrogation, police dug out major arms haul from the adjoining fields.

The recovered arms and ammunition include three AK 47 rifles, two .315 rifles, two .43 rifles, one M16 rifle, one grenade launcher, one sten gun, four AC bombs, three rifle grenades, six hand grenades, 130 AK 47 bullets, 25 .315 bullets and 20 .43 bullets.

The ANLA has been carrying out subversive activities in the district for the past several months and had also been involved in the Rajdhani Express blast last month that left five dead.
