Hearing on Meerut MLA's selection on Jan 16

Allahabad, Jan 9 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has fixed January 16 for hearing a petition challenging the selection of Hazi Yaqub, MLA from Meerut Assembly segment.

A single Bench comprising Justice Dilip Gupta passed this order on a writ petition filed by Dr Laxmi Kant Vajpayee.

The petitioner had alleged gross irregularities during the Assembly poll and sought direction form the High Court to cancel Yaqub's election.

Besides Yaqub, some other persons had also been made respondents in the petition.

The result of the election was declared on May 11.
