New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) A Gujarati NRI sought to put Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a spot by asking him pointedly whether his government would be able to provide justice to the victims of the post-Godhra riots.
Mr Modi, however, deftly wriggled out, by saying ''the people of Gujarat have well understood the meaning and substance of justice.'' He remarked that it is only the media which has not understood it but will do so in due course of time.
After this, Mr Modi went on to the next question.
The scene of the event was the sidelines of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conclave where Mr Modi informally met NRIs, mostly from Gujarat.
The questioner was careful in his words and paraphrased it by saying that while Gujarat under his leadership has made tremendous economic strides, the question was whether his administration would deliver justice to the people. It was in this context that he referred to the 2002 post-Godhra riots.
Earlier in the day, Mr Modi addressed a session on States at the PBD conference where he sought the participation of NRIs in the development of the western state.
