Congress committees in Ballia dissolved following poll debacle
Lucknow, Jan 9 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Rita Bahuguna Joshi today dissolved Ballia district Congress committee and other frontal committes in the district following humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha by polls held recently.
Ms Joshi in a statement here said the district Congress Committee of Ballia along with other frontal organisations like Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and Chatra organisations of the party in the district, city and blocks have been dissolved with immediate effect.
According to party sources a new committee in Ballia would be announced very soon.
These committees were dissolved after Congress candidate Rajeev Upadhaya lost his deposit in Ballia Lok Sabha by polls which was held on December 29, 2007. The Congress candidate received merely 10,755 votes in the by polls.
Samajwadi Party candidate and son of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar, Neeraj Shekhar won the by polls by a landslide margin of over 1.31 lakh votes against BSP candidate Vinay Shanker Tiwari.
