BJP opposes Centre's move to constitute second SRC
Hyderabad, Jan 9 (UNI) BJP State unit President and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today opposed the Centre's move to constitute the second States Re-organisation Commission (SRC) for the formation of smaller states, including separate Telangana in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing mediapersons here, he alleged, ''the BJP is opposed to the constitution of second SRC. The ruling Congress at the Centre has taken the decision to cheat the people of Telangana again in view of the next general elections. The Congress deceives Telangana people by not fulfilling the promise it made during the 2004 Assembly election in the state.'' Pointing out that the Congress had supported the formation of Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh states without SRC during the NDA regime and was now resorting to formation of second SRC on the matter, he questioned the Congress's support to smaller states without SRC during the NDA rule.
Demanding that the Centre introduce a Bill for Telangana in Parliament if it respected the Fasul Ali Commision Recommendations in the first SRC, constituted in 1953, Mr Dattatreya said the BJP would organise protest demonstrations in every district headquarters tomorrow.
Alleging that the Congress had failed to respect the sentiments of the people of Telangana and betrayed them since 'separate statehood' issue came up, Mr Dattatreya said the party would also take up 'anti-second SRC campaign' in the 'Telangana Kranti Signature movement' that was recently launched in Telangana district.
