50 kg poppy straw seized in Kashmir
Srinagar Jan 9 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have arrested a smuggler along with 50 kg of poppy straw (fuki) in south Kashmir.
A police spokesman said on a tip off, police raided the house of a smuggler Ambir Mir at Kangan, in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, late last night.
During the raid, police seized 50 kg poppy straw along with a griding machine.
The accused has been arrested, he said adding a case has been registered in a local police station.
About 40 smugglers were arrested and charas and other banned crops destroyed over hundreds of kanals of land in Ananatnag and Pulwama district last year.
A local court also sentenced two smugglers to three years jail in south Kashmir last month.
