3 of a family commit suicide

Eluru, Jan 9 (UNI) In a macabre incident, a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP), his wife and son committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Valamarru village in West Godavari district early today.

According to police here, Ponna Sivalingam (45), who was a practising doctor, was residing in Valamarru village, along with his wife Pushpa Kumari (40), son Mohana Subba Rao (14) and daughter Srilakshmi(15).

Mr Sivalingam and his wife Pushpa Kumari consumed the pesticide after mixing it in coffee early this morning and also asked their children to drink it. Their son had also taken a sip of the coffee.

However, Srilakshmi refused to have the coffee and ran out of the house.

Meanwhile, the neighbours called the ambulance and rushed the victims to Palacole Hospital. The mother and son died en route to hospital, while Mr Sivalingam died after a while, police added.

Mr Sivalingam recently took ponds on lease for prawn culture, but incurred huge losses. He had also taken loans from people.

Besides this, his wife's prolonged illness for the last eight years forced the RMP to take the extreme step, police suspected.
