SHRC's attention drawn to dismal condition in mortuaries
Mumbai, Jan 8 (UNI) The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has been moved to issue directives to deans of government and civic hospitals to properly maintain mortuaries.
The SHRC, in this regard, has been moved by Adv Sushan Kunjuraman who has said in his application that mortuaries in government and civic hospitals have become ''safe havens for army of rats and stray dogs which feed on the dead bodies''.
Adv Kunjuraman said that out of the 24 freezers in the state government-run J J hospital, 23 are out of order because of which dead bodies start decomposing.
The social activist said that on January 1 this year, a dead body at the Sion Hospital was found eaten by the rats. The social activist has submitted before the SHRC, a CD that shows the dismal conditions in the mortuaries.
