IIP of six core-infrastructure industries dips to 5.3%
New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) The index of the six core infrastructure industries dipped to 5.3 per cent (Provisional) in November 2007 even as production of crude petroleum declined to 0.3 per cent.
The index of six core infrastructure industries, with a combined weight of 26.7 per cent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94, stood at 233.3 (Provisional) in November 2007 and the growth dipped to 5.3 per cent (Provisional) compared to 9.6 per cent in November 2006, according to an official statement.
During April-November 2007-08, the six core infrastructure industries registered a growth of six per cent (Provisional) as against 8.9 per cent during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Crude Petroleum production, with a weight of 4.17 per cent in the IIP, saw the growth touching 0.3 per cent (Provisional) in November 2007 from 9.8 per cent in November 2006.
The Crude petroleum production also dipped to 0.6 per cent (Provisional) during April-November 2007-08 compared to 5.4 per cent during the same period of 2006-07.
Petroleum Refinery Products, with a weight of two per cent in the IIP, registered a growth of 5.2 per cent (Provisional) in November 2007 compared to growth of 16.4 per cent in November 2006.
The growth also declined for Petroleum refinery production to 8.3 per cent (Provisional) during April-November 2007-08 compared to 13.5 per cent during the same period of 2006-07.
Coal production, with a weight of 3.22 per cent in the IIP, registered a growth of 7.7 per cent (Provisional) in November 2007 compared to 4.9 per cent in November 2006.
Coal production grew by 4.3 per cent (Provisional) during April-November 2007-08 compared to an increase of 4.8 per cent during the same period of 2006-07.
Electricity generation, with a weight of 10.17 per cent in the IIP, witnessed a growth of 5.8 per cent (Provisional) in November 2007, while the same stood at 8.8 per cent in November last year.
Electricity generation grew by seven per cent (Provisional) during April-November 2007-08 compared to 7.3 per cent during the same period of 2006-07.
Cement production, with a weight of 1.99 per cent in the IIP, registered a growth of 4.5 per cent (Provisional) in November 2007 compared to 11.8 per cent in November last year.
Cement production grew by 7.6 per cent (Provisional) during April-November 2007-08, while the same stood at 10.6 per cent during the same period of 2006-07.
Finished (carbon) steel production, with a weight of 5.13 per cent in the IIP, registered a growth of 5.8 per cent (Provisional) in November 2007 compared to 9.3 per cent (Estimated) in November 2006.
Finished (carbon) steel production grew by 5.9 per cent (Provisional) during April-November 2007-08 compared to an increase of 11.6 per cent during the same period of 2006-07, the statement added.
