New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) The convenor of the Yamuna-Removal of Encroachments Monitoring Committee told Delhi High Court today that the village being built at the Yamuna river bed for the Commonwealth Games 2010, is in violation of rules laid down by the Court and can be termed Contempt of Court.

Convenor of the Justice Usha Mehra Monitoring Committee S M Aggarwal told the court that the Committee had cleared all unauthorised constructions from 300 meters of either side of river over a stretch of 9700 hectares along the Ring Road. The Committee was constituted by the Court to get its orders implemented.

Mr Aggarwal said the Games Committee, DDA and the Central Government, by building the Games village on the Yamuna bank have violated court orders passed on May, 2005, which state that no permanent structure shall be built on the river bed which constitutes 300 meters on either side of the river.

Earlier, Solicitor General Vahanvati had argued that they have not violated any court order as it is the decision of the government.
