India to test long range Agni-3 missile in 2009

Visakhapatnam, Jan 7: India will test indigenously built long-range Agni-3 ballistic missile in early 2009. The ballistic missile has a strike range of more than 5000 km.

V K Saraswat, the Chief Controller (Research and Development) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said that Agni-3 is currently in the design stage, adding that the trials for it are likely to be held in early 2009. Saraswat told this to reporters on the sidelines of the 95th Indian Science Congress here. He further said that the Army is going to start user trials of the sophisticated anti-tank Nag missiles in May-June this year in Rajasthan. The design work on the all weather anti-tank guided missile began in 1988 and its first tests were carried out in November 1990.
