Assailant of former Ghaziabad Bar Association held
New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) A hired killer, who attempted to kill a prominent Ghaziabad lawyer September last, has been arrested and spilt the beans about a long-standing gang war responsible for several murders in this neighbouring town of Uttar Pradesh, police said today.
Parmit Singh alias Rinku was arrested by a Crime Branch team in the Civil Lines area of North Delhi last evening after information about his presence there was obtained. He was apprehended by the team without much resistance, a good-quality country-made pistol recovered from him, police added.
The desperate criminal had shot two-time Ghaziabad Bar Association head Rakesh Tyagi September last, who, however, survived.
On interrogation, Parmit confessed that his attempt was part of a dispute between two rival gangs in Ghaziabad, going on for the past 17 years, in which several people had been killed.
Apart from this, he faced charges in six other heinous crimes, including at least two cases of murder and offences under the Arms Act.
The Uttar Pradesh Police had been intimated about his arrest.
