50 BJP volunteers held for demo on shifting dump yard

Puducherry, Jan 7 (UNI) As many as 50 BJP volunteers were arrested when they put up a road blockade on the College Road demanding the shifting of garbage dumping yard from Karuvadikuppam in Lawspet Area.

According to party sources, the garbage collected in the town area was being dumped at Karuvadikuppam resulting in foul smell and spillage along the road during transportation.

Following opposition from the people in the area,the government had assured to shift the yard to Mettuppalayam and sought three months time. However, even after four months, nothing materialised focring the BJP to hold agitations.

Ozhukarai Municipality Commissioner Selvaraj tried to pacify the agitators and sought nine months time to shift the yard which was not acceptable to the party workers who continued with the agitation forcing Lawspet Police to intervene and arrest them.
