Yechuri rules out possibility of snap poll
Agartala, Jan 6 (UNI) Ruling out the possibility of snap polls, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury reminded the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre to go by the Common Minimum Programme(CMP) to resist communal forces.
Addressing a public rally organised by the Democratic Youth Federation of India(DYFI), Tripura unit, ahead of state assembly elections here today, Mr Yechury said the Left front had been looking for a third option on the basis of anti-communalism and pro-people economic policy for a stable democracy in the country.
Raising a voice against the Congress, he said the Leftists had supported Dr Manmohan Singh only to oppose the communal forces and ''we found that the Congress was the best among the worst,'' Mr Yechury commented, while threatening not to support the Bush administration in the nuclear deal.
He said the Left parties would continue to exert pressure on United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government into implementing the promises in the CMP.
''Utilisation of nearly Rs 6,500 crore collected in education cess, more credit flow to the agriculture sector and at least two per cent of GDP in rural health facilities are the key areas of focus for the Left parties in CMP,'' said Mr Yechury.
