Venue of SAARC Chamber shifted to New Delhi

Islamabad, Jan 6: The venue of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI)'s presidential meeting has been changed from Karachi to New Delhi, in the wake of the law and order situation following the assassination of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Mr Iftikhar Ali Malik, who will take over as next Vice President of SCCI, Pakistan chapter, told the Associated Press of Pakistan that earlier the 41st executive committee meeting of SCCI was scheduled to be held in Karachi, but now will be held in New Delhi on January 13. Mr Dasho Ugen Tasechup Dorji, President SCCI, will chair the meeting and formally hand over the presidentship to Pakistan (Mr Tariq Sayeed) for the next two year term.

Mr Malik said that the Chamber's presidents of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives, along with members of executive committee from their respective countries will also attend the meeting.

Pakistan, after 14 years would head the SCCI for a two-year term.
