Over 90,000 administered polio drops in UT

Chandigarh, Jan 6 (UNI) An estimated 98,448 children were administered two additional drops of polio vaccine during the first day of Pulse Polio Immunisation Campaign in Chandigarh today.

As many as 454 stationary and 93 mobile booths were set up at locations convenient to the people and these were manned by 2100 personnel drawn from departments of Health, Education, Social Welfare, Police etc.

Director Health and Family Welfare, Dr Manjit Singh Bains, District Family Welfare Officer, Dr Kavita Talwar, District Immunization Officer, Dr G Diwan and other Health Department officers visited the immunization booths in different parts of the city and immunized few children. Independent monitors deputed by World Health Organization also inspected the booth activities.

Pulse Polio Teams would now conduct house-to-house survey on January 7 and 8 for immunizing the left over children in the age group of 0-5 years in order to provide full coverage in achieving the goal of polio free city.

UT Home Secretary Krishna Mohan has urged all the citizens to cooperate with the pulse polio teams during their house-to-house survey. He also thanked various NGOs, social, religious leaders and staff of Chandigarh Administration and other institutions for their active participation in today's campaign.
