HC allows students from other States to write exams
Chennai, Jan 6 (UNI) Madras High Court has permitted students from other states admitted to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu on the basis of marks scored in improvement examinations conducted by their states to appear for semester examinations.
Passing interim orders on a batch of writ petitions, justice V Dhanapalan, however, said the examination results should not be declared till the last hearing on the writ petitions.
The unaided engineering colleges, in their petitions, said the Directorate of Technical Education had objected to the admission of these students and withheld permission for the entire category.
In his order, justice Dhanapalan pointed out the practical examinations had been conducted for the students, who had also been issued hall tickets by Anna University, Coimbatore and the matter required a detailed hearing.
The question was whether students from other States, who had undergone improvement examinations as per the system prevailing in those States, could be given admission to colleges in Tamil Nadu, he said adjourning the matter to February 12 for final hearing.
