BSP will provide reservation to poor: Mayawati
Hyderabad, Jan 6 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today said her party would take steps to amend the Constitution to provide reservation to all poor in government jobs and education if it was voted to power at the Centre.
Addressing a public meeting here, Ms Mayawati said ''my party is in favour of reservation for all poor people in the country. The BSP has written to the Centre in this regard. But, the government is not responding to the demand.'' Ms Mayawati alleged that the Congress and the BJP had ''conspired'' to reduce the existing reservation by encouraging private sector during their regimes at the Centre.
Observing that the Dalit Christians were also facing problems due to non-availability of job and educational opportunities, Ms Mayawati said they should also be provided reservation on par with the Scheduled Castes.
She said her government in Uttar Pradesh was providing reservation in private sector and had extended it to the departments which were privatised.
''Terrorist activities has increased in the country as the Centre had failed to solve border disputes,'' she alleged.
She said the BSP would contain terrorist and naxal activities and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities if the party assumed power at the Centre.
