Benefit funds plea to Centre

Tiruchirapalli, Jan 6: The Tamil Nadu Benefit Fund Association has appealed to the Union Government to relax the existing rules and regulations governing benefit funds to protect their interests.

Association State Secretary R Rajendran said in a press release here today a resolution to this effect was adopted at the Association's General Body meeting yesterday.

The meeting also appealed to the Union Government to issue suitable communication to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and Post Offices to encourage benefit funds to do insurance business.

It also wanted the Centre to direct the authorities concerned to disburse loans to self-help groups (SHGs) through benefit funds.
