Tension in Maharashtra village over girl's rape, murder

Latur, Jan 5 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Dawan village of Udgir Taluka in this district after police recovered the body of a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered by six people.

The crime came to light after the victim's mother Salmabi filed an FIR with the Udgir police station, accusing six people of raping and murdering her teenaged daughter on the night of January 1, a police official said.

According to the official, subsequent probe into the matter led the police to recover the girl's dead body, which was found hanging from a tree in an isolated place in the village.

The police have launched a massive hunt to track down the culprits, the official said.
