Stamp on 'Father of Roses in India' released
Visakhapatnam, Jan 5 (UNI) A memorial stamp on Dr B P Pal, known as the 'Father of Roses in India' for developing different kinds of roses, was released today.
Releasing the stamp at the ongoing Indian Science Congress, Agricultural Scientist M S Swaminathan expressed hope that it would mark a new beginning in extending recognition to scientists in the country.
''Dr Pal was not only a breeder of roses, bougainvilleas and wheat but also a breeder of scientists,'' Dr Swaminathan said.
Born in 1906 in Punjab, Dr Pal is acknowledged the world over for his contribution to developing rust resistant varieties of wheat and different kinds of roses..
He served most of his career at the Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR).
