Kashmir highway closed due to snowfall and slippery road
Srinagar, Jan 5 (UNI) The Kashmir valley was cut-off from the rest of the country following the closure of the 300-km-long Srinagar- Jammu national highway due to snowfall and slippery roads this evening.
The highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the nation was closed this evening, a traffic police official told UNI.
He said the road has become slippery at Shiatan Nullah and it was snowing at several points on the highway, making the journey risky.
The road has been closed from both sides, he added.
He said people are requested to contact authorities before starting the journey from Jammu or Srinagar tomorrow.
Meanwhile, official sources said hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers and essential commodities were stranded on both sides of the highway.
The vehicles stranded on the highway will be allowed to move towards their respective destination once the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, will put through the highway after undertaking snow clearance operation.
This is the second time that the highway, the life line to valley, was closed for traffic due to snowfall during this winter.
