Governor calls for ensuring development in rural areas

Jamui, Jan 05 (UNI) Bihar Governor today called for accelerating the implementation of various welfare and development schemes in rural areas to ensure prosperity and better lives for villagers.

Inaugurating a three-day ''Health Fare'' here, Bihar Governor R S Gavai said the essence of democracy lay in villages and every effort should be made to bring ''cheers and prosperity'' in the rural areas.

'' Parliament, Assemblies and other Legislative bodies in the country are the lifeline of Indian democracy and their relevance assumes significance as peoples' representatives from rural areas raise the issues confronted by the villagers constituting almost 70 per cent of the country's total population, '' Mr Gavai maintained.

Lauding the efforts of the Bihar government in improving the healthcare facilities in the state, Mr Gavai said the condition of the hospitals had witnessed marked change during the past two years.

State Health Minister Chandramohan Rai said the Bihar government was committed to improving medical facilities at hospitals as modern gadgets for pathological tests had been installed and drugs were now available there.

Strict disciplinary actions had been taken against the doctors casually taking their duties in hospitals and remaining absent, he said adding the step had yielded result as doctors were now performing duties in even remote hospitals.

Several internationally acclaimed doctors from various hospitals, including All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, were attending the patients in Health Fare.
